It was a partnership with a few members of the Swatch Group. I forget where I got this quote from:
"In an admirable show of honesty, Mr. Monachon also cautioned us that although the calibre 8500/8501 are completely designed and developed within OMEGA Granges, it is dangerous to call the movement completely in-house manufactured. Without the help and assistant of Comadur, Nivarox, ETA and Frederick Piguet - all within the Swatch Group, the success of this calibre and the Deville Hour Vision model would not have been possible. The objective is to manufacture the complete movement and watch within OMEGA premises but at the moment, only assembly is done within the OMEGA compound."
Eh. I’m a little more loosy-goosy in my definition of "in house." I considered the Omega 3133 in house….but not everyone does.

It’s interesting how much conversation this article has sparked. Rolex forums are mostly smiling, and some Omega fans are hot under the collar. I’ve never taken part in one of these O vs R debates before since I feel both brands have roughly equal merit in the industry. I don’t think I’ll be commenting again either since I believe the jury is still out on the co-ax.
Dennis - don’t let those knuckle heads on WUS curb your enthusiasm for debate and sharing information! They’re "big and bad" in their neighborhood. Let’s seem ‘em register here and engage in some "friendly" debate.
I’ve learned a lot - particular from some of the things you’ve shared in response to this article.

Just got back from a 7 nt trip to Park City UT w/the Pentagon Ski Club. I was one of the only 2 non skiiers out of the 45 people that went. My wife skis, I don’t. I tried cross country one day… not for me. I tried to take some pics but I realize they didn’t come out great. I’m using a 6 year old point and shoot, so consider the source. There was so much to do for a non skiier - had an amazing time and every minute of the day was filled up doing stuff while she skied. Went to see 2 plays, 2 movies, Olympic Park for 2 days to see all sorts of neat stuff and the museum, did 2 nature hikes on snowshoes, visited the different surrounding towns.
The little tiny AD I went to. Great collection of Rolexes though for a little store. They had my grail watch, the meteorite Daytona

I could snowshoe but not ski

On a snowshoe venture

Happy to be out of my hotel room in the great outdoors

My favorite piece of art on the trip. Park City had amazing galleries. This one is truly wonderful, but I’d have to sell my Daytona AND YM to get it… He studied pin-up girls from the 40’s and 50’s to get the girl just right

A Daytona is blurred by the 130 ft ski jump outside of Park City

If you ever get to Park City, don’t miss the tour of the 2002 Olympic Park

The bobsled goes 80 mph for 52 seconds and cost’s $200 if you want to do it

A daytona gets ready for the bobsled

Betcha didn’t know a Daytona carried an Olympic torch in the 02 Olympics

Here’s me doing the slalom on the 02 Olympics

A Daytona watches them getting the luge ready for service
A Daytona does some curling in the 02 Olympics

The famous Olympic Ski Jumps - they cost 18 million to make

Dinner at Wahso in Park City - really cool place

Back at Olympic Park the next day… couldn’t get enough of this great Museum and park

They go 80+ mph with 5 g’s of force on the luge and skeleton

If you blinked, you’d miss them at turn 12

A Daytona visits the Sugar Buzz Candy store. It had all my nostalgic favorite candies.

No more Rolex shopping, just ski jacket shopping.

A daytona goes up the ski lift at The Canyons
A Daytona visits the Swaner preserve on snowshoes - great tour, cool 1800 protected acres

Studying animal tracks on the preserve on a 2 hours guided tour

Things I learned at the Swaner Eco designed building… I will try not to buy any more bottled water. They take 500 years to decompose in dumps and our glass, 4000 years! Ouch. Time to buy some metal reusable water containers for our cars. No more 24 packs of Polar Water bottles after reading this…

They feed you well in Park City w/ 1 pound hamburgers! Grubb steak house

Thanks for looking.
